On 13 June 2008, the Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, published a report (Linking schools and early years services) which highlights evidence demonstrating the importance of the early years in relation to children’s future development.
The report underlines the need to forge stronger links between the early years in a child’s development, related services and school. It comprises an exploration of directions from the evidence, a review of policy directions in early childhood services and schools across Australia, a review of international and Australian community school models and a series of recommendations detailing the way forward.
